The Codex is an object appearing in the 2024 film Venom: The Last Dance, the final installment in Sony's Venom trilogy. It is used to revive a symbiote's host by fusing their life force with their symbiote. One was created after Eddie Brock was stabbed by Riot in the first film.

Appearance[]

The Codex takes on the shape of a bright orange, glowing spiral. It is quite small, being able to fit inside Venom's body.

History[]

During the final battle of the first Venom movie, Eddie Brock was stabbed by Riot, killing him. With no other option, Venom fused his and Eddie's lifeforces, creating the Codex. The Codex would remain inside Venom for the next year, with Eddie being completely oblivious to its existence.

A year after the events of the first film, Knull, the creator of the symbiotes, would sense Venom's codex. Needing it to escape his prison, he would send his Xenophages to Earth to retrieve it.

Venom and Eddie attempted to hitch a ride to New York City on the outside of a plane, though they were forced off after a Xenophage detected the Codex. After landing in Nevada, Venom explained to Eddie that the Codex was the key to Knull's freedom and that the Xenophages could only see it when Eddie was fully transformed. He also told Eddie how it was created and that the only way to destroy was to kill either him or Eddie.

After the two made their way to Las Vegas, Venom fully transformed to dance with Mrs. Chen, alerting the Xenophage, as well as the government agent Rex Strickland. Venom was separated from Eddie and the pair was taken to Area 51, though Venom managed to escape confinement and return to his host. In order to lure the Xenophages to him, Venom transformed, and a long battle ensued. Venom eventually engulfed the Xenophages and and had Strickland coat them in acid, killing them. However, realizing Earth would always be at risk as long as the Codex existed, Venom soaked himself in the acid. This sacrifice presumably killed Venom and the Codex along with him.

Trivia[]

  • Prior to the release of Venom: The Last Dance, some fans criticized Eddie getting stabbed by Riot, since they believed that he would have been instantly killed and thus Venom would be unable to rebond with him.
