The Dark Star is a barren, desolate planet shrouded in darkness which serves as the homeworld of a race of warmongering aliens. It is from the Dark Star that the Pako was sent to Earth.

History

Ages ago, the aliens of the Dark Star sent two of their kind together with the Pako to seek out a planet for them to conquer. The aliens landed in 6th century Japan, but after being shown kindness by the humans living there, both the Pako and one of the aliens chose to give up on their mission. The other alien, Demost, then attempted to destroy the Pako but was defeated and sealed within a mountain by his former comrade, who became the very first Jiraiya. The Pako itself would have its location hidden under the direction of Prince Shotoku, with the only map to where it was being a clay board kept under close protection by Jiraiya and his successors.

With the Pako having abandoned its mission, the aliens of the Dark Star directed their planet's trajectory towards Earth to conquer it themselves. In the centuries that followed the Pako's arrival on Earth, a conflict broke out between various ninjas all seeking to obtain the Pako, which they believed to hold great power and treasure. In the present day, during a battle between the current Jiraiya and a criminal syndicate of ninjas known as the Sorcerers Clan, Demost was able to escape his prison with the tremors caused by Jiraishin's unearthing and resumed his mission of hunting down and destroying the Pako.

However, Toha Yamaji, the current Jiraiya, and his allies were able to get to the Pako first. The Pako then revealed to them the truth about its origins and that the Dark Star was almost near Earth, leading it to leave the planet in Jiraishin and draw the Dark Star into deep space after it in order to ensure the Earth would be spared from the Dark Star aliens' conquest.
