The Final Weapon is a huge battle mech-styled spacecraft created by the nefarious genius Dr. Robotnik. At the climax of the his failed hostile takeover of the fabled Angel Island, Robotnik used this stellar escape vessel to escape the crumbling rebuilt Death Egg with the legendary Master Emerald, but he was pursued by the fastest hedgehog Sonic (in his Super Sonic form or his Hyper Sonic form), with the magic power of the Chaos Emeralds in his hold, who managed to destroy the evil doctor's spacecraft, recover the Master Emerald, and save the world.

Description

The Final Weapon spacecraft itself consists of 2 forms:

  • It first form is a streamlined blue and gray spaceship. On its rear it has 3 rocket exhausts, with the top and bottom ones being colored black-orange and the one in the middle being coloured orange-gray also. The top and bottom exhausts both are attached to a large and thick body each, with each of them having a gray stripe down its midsection. Further ahead on the sides of the Final Weapon are three spherical attachments with adjustable turrets protruding from them. On the front, it has two thick blue layers of armor covering the midsection and bottom of the front respectively. On the front of these two armor platings are also greyish mouthed launch tubes from where missiles are deployed. Lastly, sitting on top of the front of the Final Weapon is a dome-shaped gray metallic head with a reasonably long red nose that resembles the maniacal Dr. Robotnik's iconic mustachioed face.
  • The second form quite mirroring a shorter version of the mad Doctor Robotnik's Death Egg Robot itself, as such, while it also looked parallel to one of Robotnik's EggRobos, merged together in an egg-shape form. Its head is gray and metallic and possesses a reasonably long red nose while its torso is red with yellow triangles on the chest and black on the bottom. It also consists of a pair of red and orange-black rocket attachments on its back, spherical thighs, red-armored lower legs and kneecaps and boot-like feet with gray soles. Lastly, it has a pair of arms with red-plated shoulders, gray arms, red forearms, and five-fingered gray hands with orange fingers.

Overview

when his rebuilt Death Egg spacestation was coming apart around him and on the verge of explosion due to Sonic the Hedgehog's interference with his evil plans, the frantic Dr. Robotnik fled from the Death Egg and hop aboard the Final Weapon with the fabled Master Emerald stored away in it in order to make an escape.

As the Final Weapon made its way through the Death Egg's Doomsday Zone however, Dr. Robotnik noticed Super Sonic/Hyper Sonic pursuing him due to the power of the legendary Chaos Emeralds in his possession.

Doctor Robotnik tried to keep the super-powered Sonic at bay by firing the Final Weapon's missiles at him, but Sonic soon caught up to him and began redirecting the weaponized robotic spacecraft's missiles back into it. When the Final Weapon could never take any more damage from the powerful foe, it seemingly began to crash, only to shed its protective armor and resume its escape with the Master Emerald in its clutches.

Despite his efforts in this battle-ridden speed chase that ends, the maniacal Doctor Robotnik yet again suffered another anguishing defeat when Sonic destroyed the now-powerless Final Weapon, thus allowing the hero to reclaim the Master Emerald and returning to the fabled Angel Island.

Trivia

  • It is also known as the "Ultimate Weapon" and the "Doomsday Weapon".
  • It has the same name as another evil robotic battlesuit from Sonic 3D Blast.
  • In the Sonic the Comic series and its spin-offs published by Fleetway Editions, a similar Final Weapon creation appeared in Sonic the Comic #53 and it was by the evil Dr. Robotnik to face Sonic on the Floating Island and retrieve the Master Emerald following the destruction of the Death Egg II, however, Sonic savagely smashed the Final Weapon and managed to push it off the Floating Island, while later the mech's jet pack ensured Doctor Robotnik's survival via his crash-landing back on the planet Mobius.
  • What is interesting to note is that, within the Hidden Palace Zone lies a strange-looking ancient mural in the background during Sonic's hand-to-hand fight with Knuckles as it depicts an abstract version of the battle between Sonic in his Super transformation and the evil Doctor Robotnik's so-called "Final Weapon" over the fabled Master Emerald itself.
  • A variant of the Final Weapon (dubbed "Chaotic Space Zone Boss" or "Chaotic Space Zone EggRobo") appears as the final boss of Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure's final level Chaotic Space Zone (similar to the Doomsday Zone). Although physically speaking, the said game's boss have rockets instead of legs, faces leftward toward Super Sonic instead of rightward and have missile launchers instead of hands, and the way to defeat the previous boss is quite different, however, than this one, with the former needing to be hit directly by Sonic instead of having its missiles reflected towards it, having a first phase absent from the Chaotic Space Zone boss and stoppable asteroids that are never present in the Chaotic Space Zone unlike its Sonic the Hedgehog counterpart.
  • In Sonic and the Black Knight, the Final Weapon appears among the winning fan art shown in the game.
