King K. Rool's Blunderbuss is a weapon utilized by the titular King K. Rool in the Donkey Kong series.
It is, as its name indicates, a massive blunderbuss with a large horn-shaped barrel at the end, it is used by King K. Rool to antagonize Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong or whoever opposes him.
In the Donkey Kong series[]
The blunderbuss first appears in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, where King K. Rool (under the alias of "Kaptain K. Rool") used it as his main weapon of choice for combat. The gun appears for the first time in the fake level Stronghold Showdown where Donkey Kong is seen tied up in a straight hallway as a bait, after Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong get close to DK, he immediately gets pulled up to the Flying Krock by King K. Rool who is seen carrying the blunderbuss. However, it isn't until you reach the Flying Krock that you finally get to see the blunderbuss in action in the final boss fight against K. Rool.
The blunderbuss shoots cannonballs and spiked cannonballs as its main attack but the way they work changes as the fight goes on, first they will be shot in a straight line like any other weapon, then they will be bouncing up and down over the arena and finally they will be shot in a swirly way to confuse the player, also very often K. Rool will leave two spiked cannonballs as traps in the arena. The blunderbuss also shoots barrels that will drop a cannonball to use against the blunderbuss when broken and status-afflicting clouds that will either slow, freeze or disorient its targets, the gun's last move is a vaccuum that will, obviously, suck up the player to the gun. Additionally the blunderbuss also aids King K. Rool's movement, thrusting him forwards at high speeds by aiming it in the opposite direction and using the jet propulsion, with the barrel acting as the exhaust.
The blunderbuss makes a cameo in Donkey Kong 64, albeit not physically, where it appears on a portrait of King K. Rool, in his Kaptain K. Rool alias, in the stage Gloomy Galleon.
In the Super Smash Bros. series[]
The blunderbuss returns alongside King K. Rool in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate where it's used as his neutral special, acting mostly the same as it did in DKC 2 but slightly limited, here the gun is only able to shoot normal cannonballs and suck up things with a vaccuum, however this time the blunderbuss can also suck up the opponents and even suck back the cannonballs (if they are reflected or they hit the opponent) and redirect it in straight up, frontal up and backwards up directions.
Trivia[]
- The circular motion that the cannonballs from his blunderbuss exhibit while flying through the air in Smash Ultimate could be a reference to cannonballs shot by Shotzos from Kirby.
