The Koopa Battleships are seafaring armed warships used as one of the weapons of the Koopa Kingdom.

These highly armed maritime vessels that served King Bowser and his Koopa Troop legions very well, are each equipped with massive artillery and they all have the same exterior texture as the Koopa Airships.

Bowser and his royal family takes charge and lead the fleet of these aerial war-machines manned by their soldiers into battle as well into invasion of other lands within the Mushroom World including the Mushroom Kingdom on a path of total conquest.

Only one Battleship fleet of 3 battleships which all commanded by the Koopa creature Boom-Boom, guards the Dark Land, and they were stationed near the first stage of the area, just after the first Tank battalion.

The Super Mario Bros. defeated Boom-Boom and put all the battleships out of commission within the Dark Land before moving forward towards Bowser's Castle on mission to save both Princess Peach Toadstool and the Mushroom Kingdom.

The battleships also reappeared in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, in a World-e level called "Koopaling Confusion". Besides the battleships themselves, it also took place in an area that resembled a port or dock, which had a short lower path and a higher longer path; regardless, the Super Mario Bros. will fight Ludwig von Koopa of the Koopalings, though his health depends on the path chosen.

Trivia

  • Although the Koopa Battleship fleet was stationed on the world map on what resembled a lava lake in SUper Mario Bros. 3, the actual level itself depicted a brownish liquid that the player could swim in with some difficulty.
  • The Koopa Battleships also reappeared in the remake game Super Mario Advance 4 as a level for World-e called "Kokuppa ni Damasareru na!" which is exclusive only in the Japanese version. Besides the battleships themselves, it also took place in an area that resembled a port or dock. Getting to the end of the level will have the player face Ludwig von Koopa, regardless of which path the player took.
