The Paradox Prism is a major object in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, serving as the central object of the television series Sonic Prime. It is a crystal of unknown origin hidden inside the caverns of Green Hill's Temple Mountain. After being shattered apart by Sonic, it destroyed the entire universe by splitting it into five Shatterspaces.

Appearance[]

The Paradox Prism is a fairly large of blue, red, yellow, green, and purple segments. After being destroyed by Sonic, it was split into five pieces, with each of them being one of the prisms five colors.

History[]

Season 1[]

The Paradox Prism's origins are unknown, though it has presumably been around for a long time, as both Rouge the Bat and Dr. Eggman were aware of it's existence. Dr. Eggman tricked Sonic into breaking open the Temple Mountain, revealing the prism to him. During a battle between Dr. Eggman and Sonic's team, Sonic spin-dashed at Eggman, destroying the prism and splitting the universe into five different dimensions along with it. With Green Hill gone, each shard was sent to a different Shatterspace. Shadow the Hedgehog was also sent to the dimension between the Shatterspaces.

The green shard was sent into Boscage Maze, where it rapidly accelerated the growth of the trees. This upset the ecosystem and forced the Scavengers to take more food, angering Thorn Rose and leading to her fall to villainy. The blue shard ended up in the Devil's Lighthouse. Knuckles the Dread tried to steal it, but he failed, and his crew abandoned him. The yellow and purple shards landed in Ghost Hill and the Grim respectively, where they stood undisturbed for an unspecified amount of time.

The most notable use of the prism was in New Yolk City, where the red shard was found by the sinister Chaos Council. Using the prism's power, the council forcibly took over that universe's version of Green Hill, transforming it into their empire. The prism shard was repurposed into being the power source of the city.

After Sonic travelled to New Yolk City, he, Knuckles, Rebel, Tails Nine, and Rusty Rose went to steal the prism shard from the Chaos Council. However, Sonic disappeared after touching the shard, allowing Tails Nine to steal the prism and leave the others behind. Sonic ended up in Boscage Maze, where he helped Thorn Rose find the Green Shard. However, Thorn betrayed him and tried to use the shard to kill the Scavengers. Sonic later went to get the shard, though he accidentally touched it, sending him back to New Yolk.

During a fight with the Chaos Council, Sonic was found by Tails Nine, who used a prism-powered plane to take him to the Grim. Nine informed him that he was trying to turn the Grim into a new reality. Later on in the battle, Nine arrived in New Yolk city to help fight the Chaos Council, though he and his prism shard were captured. After spending a day with Knuckles the Dread's pirate crew, Sonic and the pirates went to the Devil's Lighthouse to find the prism shard. Despite the best efforts of the Chaos Council, Knuckles the Dread was able to get to the shard.

Trivia[]

  • In the multiplayer online game Sonic Speed Simulator, the Paradox Prism was added as part of the "Sonic Prime Premiere Event", where it could be found in the center of the movie theater, in front of the screen featuring the world premiere of the first Sonic Prime episode "Shattered". During the episode, the Paradox Prism in the theater would react accordingly to what was happening on the screen, having a tendency to glow when it is on camera in the episode.
  • In the Sonic Texture Pack for Minecraft, the Paradox Prism appears as an item, where it replaces the Smithing Template Silence Armor Trim from the original game, and essentially serves as a texture-swap of it. In the game, it fulfills the exact same function as the Smithing Template it is edited over, being able to be used to customize armor.
    • In Survival Mode, the player can only obtain it by reaching a randomly generated Ancient City and borrowing it from a chest, where it has a 1.2% chance of spawning. However, in Creative Mode, the player has the option to simply grab it out of their inventory.
