Layout[]

As the name suggests, it looks like a fortress on top of a metallic skull with horns, a nod to to the physiogonomy of horned Boazanians. It deploys beast fighters from it's eyes and has a huge drill in its mouth.

Heinel's palace is located at the top, which is perpendicular to a colosseum for beast fighters. Both buildings are surrounded by a moat. The moat itself is surrounded by ground, and the remaining portion of Scar Rook is completely made from metal.

Colosseum[]

When Heinel or his allies wish to test a beast fighter, they deploy them to the colosseum of Skullrock. The Colosseum is also used for duels between Boazanians, such as Jangal and Katherine dueling Bergan and Girion proving his prowess against Heinel's henchmen.

Heinel's Palace[]

Heinel's garden, where he often takes his rest

The palace itself is spacious and has many rooms, as revealed in Episodes 22 and 24. These include Heinel's quarters, Katherine's quarters, Zuhl's quarters, Jangal's quarters, a laboratory, a library, a garden, a meeting room, and guest rooms. Episode 22 also reveals that there are several secret passageways that are used by Zuhl to spy/ambush Heinel, though they are all unsuccessful as he already knows every nook and cranny of the palace.

Heinel's palace also has a dome, where Heinel sunbathes and observes the environment. He has his own beach chair with cups of wine.

Labratory[]

Skullrock has a laboratory for Katherine's research and experimentation on animals. Zuhl also uses the lab on occasion.

Secret room[]

In episode 30, Heinel is seen practicing a ritual in a secret room of Skullrock, which involves slitting the throat of a bird and pouring its blood in a cup while surrounded by fire. When he hears someone else in the room he throws a dagger, only to realize it is Katherine. Though she knows she was intruding in on him, she was still shocked to see him practice the ritual as it is only done by warriors about to die.

Yuki Hijiri and Momino Akino's commentary on Skullrook

The book Super Electromagentic Robot Voltes V Information (released by TV Asahi and Toei) features commentary from Yuki Hijiri and Momoji Akino. Regarding Skull Rook, Akino comments "That Skullrook was creepy. That naming is by me, "Skull" of the "Skull" and "Rook" of the "Castle", hence Skullrook. Seriously, I wonder why those guys who claim to be aristocrats board the ship even though it's so eerie." He later comments "No, it's anime, so I can do anything." Even if there is a certain amount of freedom in real life, anime is a world of great freedom.".
