The Sky Fortress

The Sky Fortress Zone, also known as the Sky Fortress, is the large aircraft in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II. It is designed by the evil Dr. Robotnik.

Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles "Tails" Prower pursue Eggman on the Tornado plane. The Tornado lands on the Fortress, so Sonic and Tails need to find Eggman on the fortress and they come across Cluckers from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and new red Fullboars which charge at them. Sonic and Tails have been on the aircraft for quite a while since they have landed and there's still no sign of Eggman. Then Sonic and Tails come upon ring shooters and boosters which shoot fire. After beating Metal Sonic in Sky Fortress Zone, Eggman ditches his damaged airship and decides to retreat to his new space station with Metal Sonic while Sonic and Tails follow them in an escape pod.

Trivia

• Similar to the levels it borrows its tropes from, Sky Fortress Zone's name references both Sky Chase Zone and Wing Fortress Zone.
  • Interestingly, Sky Fortress Zone was the early name considered for Wing Fortress Zone at one point. This is evidenced by the level select screen in some of the prototype builds. It is yet unknown if this is intentional.
  • Also, the zig-zag shaped path at the beginning of Act 2 was quite similar to the zig-zag path at the beginning of Wing Fortress Zone.
• Like Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the Zone precedes a final showdown taking place in Eggman's Death Egg, this game being the Death Egg Mk. II.
• The Ring Shooters in Act 3 are similar to the ones in the Death Egg Zone from Sonic & Knuckles.
