The Biggest, Most Awful, Most Tragic Event in Human History, better known as The Tragedy or The Worst, Most Despair-inducing Incident in the History of Mankind, is a major event in the Danganronpa franchise.
History[]
About a year before the students of class 78 were thrust into the "Killing School Life" after having their memories of their previous times as the school forcibly wiped, Junko Enoshima started the Tragedy with the help of Ultimate Despair, an organization she created by brainwashing class 77-B using the footage of their beloved class representative, Chiaki Nanami's, death.
The Tragedy was described by multiple people as a cataclysmic event of meaningless and chaotic violence, consisting of every crime known to man being committed as a part of it. It was originally orchestrated by Junko and her twin sister Mukuro Ikusaba in order to make the world accept despair as a part of their daily lives. As a result, the world became a place so filled to the brim with despair that it caused new forms of despair to be created.
At some point during or even before the world had been thrown into a state of chaos and peril, an organization known as the Future Foundation was created in order to combat the despair brought upon the world by Ultimate Despair and to defeat the organization once and for all.
By the end of the Hope Arc, the Tragedy has officially come to an end due to the Future Foundation's efforts to restore hope to the world.
